DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Francis Baily; William Thomas Brande; Marc Isambard Brunel; John George Children; William Clift; Michael Faraday; George Bellas Greenough; Reverend George Peacock; Peter Mark Roget; Reverend Adam Sedgwick; the Treasurer, John William Lubbock, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Mr. Whatton requested by letter an extension of time for admission to the Fellowship, granted. Committees appointed to report on what works in the fields of Geology or Mineralogy, and in Physics would be eligible for Royal Medals, with requests for prize questions in each area, the committee appointees listed. Resolved that the Copley Medal be awarded to Professor Plana for 'Theorie du mouvement de la Lune'. List of salaries and wages to be paid to Officers and Staff. List of sums ordered to be paid for bills and gratuities to individuals, ands a list of other bills, largely for House purposes. Treasurer communicated on estimates for publishing the new Library Catalogue, from Mr. R. Taylor and from Mr. Clowes. Treasurer reported on heavy expenses incurred for fitting up the Society's new rooms and for the Catalogue: a previous resolution on investing compositions for annual payments suspended for the present year as a result.
