DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Charles Frederick Barnwell; William Thomas Brande; Sir Benjamin Collins Brodie; John George Children; Michael Faraday; Dr. Henry Holland; Reverend Dr. Philip Jennings; Charles Konig; Herbert Mayo; Roderick Impey Murchison; Reverend George Peacock; Peter Mark Roget; Dr. Edward Turner; the Treasurer, John William Lubbock, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: new members of Council were sworn in, and minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Reappointment of committees, with lists of membership and terms of reference: Donation Fund Committee; Library Committee; Catalogue Committee; Committee for Examining Manuscripts; and the Excise Committee. A new committee to be created to consider appointing a successor to James Hudson, or whether an alternative arrangement would be more economical. The Treasurer and Captain Smyth had agreed to cede 55 volumes of oriental manuscripts to the British Museum for £165. Messrs. Arnold and Dent engaged to attend to the Society's clocks, time to be kept 'within two seconds of the truth'. Fellowship candidates for election that evening to be considered for composition of payments as if they had been elected on 11 December. The Royal Medal for Geology and Mineralogy in 1837 should be presented to the best paper, if the conditions set by the Committee were not met.
