DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Charles Frederick Barnwell; John George Children; Michael Faraday; Reverend Dr. Philip Jennings; Herbert Mayo; Roderick Impey Murchison; Peter Mark Roget; the Treasurer, John William Lubbock, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The resolution of Michael Faraday on the award of Royal Medals to papers eligible in more than one subject area, full text entered into the minutes. Committees appointed to consider the award of Royal Medals in the categories of Mathematics and Chemistry, with any particular prize questions to be considered for the 1838 awards, and lists of committee members. Mr. E. Browne granted permission to copy a paper in the archives. Mr. Coates, Secretary of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge denied permission to take the Society's portaits of Thomas Hobbes and Neville Maskelyne to his house for copying. List of candidates for Foreign Membership, with proposers, five to be slected for balloting at the nest meeting of Council. Copies of Abstracts to be given to the Depot de la Marine and to the Jardin du Roi, Paris.
