DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Charles Frederick Barnwell; Henry De la Beche; William Thomas Brande; John George Children; Reverend Dr. Philip Jennings; Charles Konig; Charles Lyell; Roderick Impey Murchison; William Parsons, Lord Oxmantown; Reverend George Peacock; Reverend Baden Powell; Sir John Rennie; Peter Mark Roget; Reverend William Whewell; the Treasurer, John William Lubbock, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Henry De la Beche and Lord Oxmantown were sworn in as new members of Council. Letter from Mr. Archibald, to Michael Faraday, requesting permission for an American artist to copy the portrait of Sir Humphry Davy, granted. Henry De la Beche gave notice that he would propose a committee to inquire into forming an honorary body of gentlemen within the Society who had promoted science by writing or discovery. John Davy applied for permission to copy his latest two papers, granted.
