DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: William Allen; John George Children; Samuel Hunter Christie; Charles Konig; William Lawrence; Sir John Rennie; Peter Mark Roget; Captain William Henry Smyth; the Treasurer, Francis Baily, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: Mr. Lawrence and Captain Smyth were sworn in as new Members of Council, Mr. Allen gave his affirmation, and minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Mr. Baily reported that he had returned Graham's brass scale and two French metres, loaned to him in April last. Letter from W. Vaughan, requesting copies of the Greenwich Observations for Bowden College and Watenville's College, Maine, granted on further communication with Mr. Vaughan. Letter from J. Clayton Freeling to Dr. Roget referred to the Excise Committee. Letter from Dr. Granville to J. G. Children read [contents not minuted]. Mr. Children applied to use the Society's large magnet at the Greenwich Observatory, granted.
