DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: William Allen; Reverend Dr. William Buckland; John George Children; Samuel Hunter Christie; Reverend James Cumming; Dr, Henry Holland; Charles Konig; John William Lubbock; Herbert Mayo; Roderick Impey Murchison; Sir John Rennie; Peter Mark Roget; Captain William Henry Smyth; Reverend William Whewell; the Treasurer, Francis Baily, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Sir John Gore Ouseley applied for parts of Philosophical Transactions published prior to 1831, turned down, with Council unable to deviate from current practice. Treasurer reported that the window frames of the Society's apartments needed repair, a request to be made to the Board of Works. The Meteorological Committee authorised to restore the Society's water barometer to an efficient state. Report of the committee considering Baron Humboldt's request read and ordered to be printed in Proceedings, with 250 extra copies: a committee to be appointed to consider the best means of actioning the recommended measures and to estimate their costs. Letter from Mr. Pentland, appointed Consol-General to Bolivia, offering his co-operation with Baron Humboldt's objectives, his letter referred to the committee. Richard Taylor applied for a payment in advance for the printing of the Library Catalogue, granted. Dr. Davy applied to borrow the Liber Epistolaris of Henry Oldenburg, declined, as it was not policy to lend manuscripts. Seal of the Royal Society affixed to a power of attorney authorising Sir John Lubbock and Company to receive dividends of £3,452 1s. 1d. from the Accountant General of the Exchequer. Letter from Mr. Gould, resigning as Porter to the Society. Resolution of Council on the selection of the Bakerian Lecture rescinded, the Committee of Papers to deliver a list of papers to Council for one to be selected.
