DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Reverend Dr. William Buckland; John George Children; Samuel Hunter Christie; Joseph William Green; Dr. Henry Holland; Charles Konig; William Lawrence; John William Lubbock; Herbert Mayo; Roderick Impey Murchison; Sir John Rennie; Peter Mark Roget; the Treasurer, Francis Baily, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Mr. Shuckard had been entrusted with counting Library Catalogue slips and 24,136 were counted in. Auditors of the Treasurer's accounts appointed. Report read from the Medal Committee for Animal Physiology recommending George Newport for a Royal Medal, approved. Resolved that a Royal Medal shoudl be awarded to Sir John Herschel for his paper on nebulae and clusters of stars. Two bonds entered as security by John David Roberton, for performance of duties as Assistant Secretary, deposited in the iron chest. Michael Faraday declined undertaking duties as a Member of Council, owing to the state of his health; the Earl of Burlington to be recommended in his place. List of salaries to be paid to Officers and Staff. List of bills to be paid, for various purposes. Mr. Montefiore applied for an extension of time for admission to the Fellowship, granted. Letter from Monck Mason, York Terrace, Regent's Park, 24 October 1836, to the Duke of Sussex, full text entered into the minutes: offering the services of Charles Green and the Great Vauxhall Balloon for the purpose of scientific investigations, a committee to be formed to consider the offer.
