DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: William Cavendish, Earl of Burlington; John George Children; Samuel Hunter Christie; William Willoughby Cole, Viscount Cole; Joseph Henry Green; George Bellas Greenough;; John Lindley; John William Lubbock; Reverend George Peacock; William Haseldine Pepys; Peter Mark Roget; Captain William Henry Smyth; William Henry Fox Talbot; the Treasurer, Francis Baily, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Dr. Valentine Mott not to proposed for election, being a foreigner and not resident in England. Treasurer announced that he had received Reports requested from the Speaker of the House of Commons. Letter from Charles Konig stating that he would resign as Foreign Secretary from the next Anniversary. Application on behalf of the Observatory of the University of Tubingen for a copy of the Greenwich Observations, granted. Application from Mr. Baily on behalf of the Royal Astronomical Society for a copy of Horsley's edition of Newton, granted. Report on a meeting of the Committee to consider Monck Mason's proposals for the use of the Vauxhall Balloon: Mr. Gye, one of the proprietors had attended the meeting, stating that Mr Mason had not the authority to make the offer, but one might be made, if the Royal Society covered the expenses involved; no further action to be taken.
