DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Francis Baily; Captain Francis Beaufort; Marc Isambard Brunel; Reverend Dr. William Buckland; John George Children; Samuel Hunter Christie; Benjamin Gompertz; George Bellas Greenough; Charles Konig; Roderick Murchison; William Hasledine Pepys; John William Lubbock, Vice President and Treasurer, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A committee was formed to decide on the length of the pendulum apparatus being made by Mr. Repsold for the Royal Society. Mr. Children produced a report on Barlow's fluid-refracting telescope, deferred until reports were received from Sir John Herschel and Professor Airy. Letter from Mr. Bate requesting a copy of the report of the Hygrometer Committtee, granted. Report of the Royal Medal Committee (Astronomy) recommending Sir John Herschel for a Royal Medal; and declining to propose a prize question. Names of Fellows having not paid their subscriptions to be suspended in the Meeting Room.
