DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: William Allen; Dr. John Bostock; John George Children; Samuel Hunter Christie; Charles Konig; William Lawrence; Dr. John Lindley; William Haseldine Pepys; Peter Mark Roget; the Treasurer, Francis Baily, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The address to Queen Victoria was read and the Society's seal affixed. Resolved by ballot that a Royal Medal be awarded to the Reverend William Whewell for his researches on the thory of the tides. Resolved by ballot that Copley Medals be awarded to M. Becquerel, for his memoirs on electricity and the production of crystals of metallic sulphurets and of sulphur; and to John Frederick Daniell for his two papers on voltaic combinations. List of salaries for payment to Officer and staff. List of bills ordered to be paid, for various expenses.
