On the Amount of Carbonic acid contained in Sea-air, & in the air of tropical Brazil (Chem S Journ 1867). On the relation between the Sun's altitude & the Chemical action of total daylight in a cloudless sky (Experiments made at Lisbon) and on the measurement of the Chemical intensity during the Total Solar Eclipse of Dec 22, 1870 (Experiments made at Catania) (Phil Trans: 1870-71 in conjunction with H E Roscoe.) On the combined action of pressure & heat on the Paraffins (in conjunction with J Young Proc Roy Soc 1871.) On Ethyl-Benzoic Acid (in conjunction with Kekule. Chem Soc Journ 1869). Author of a manual of Quantitative Chemical Analysis (Longmans) & of a Textbook of Inorganic Chemistry (Collins). Distinguished as a Chemist.
