CitationDistinguished as organic and technological chemist. Author or joint-author of some eighty original memoirs. Has paid particular attention to the following topics; properties of nitroarylamines, hydronaphthalenes and their derivatives, insoluble azo-colours and their identification on the fibre, physical and chemical effects of after-treatments on insoluble azo-colours on the fibre; constitution of commercial yellow pigments; investigation of tars from low-temperature carbonisation of coal; investigation of vat dyes and of anti-coagulant dyes; derivatives of xylenols. A long series of papers on coupling of diazo-sulphonates with 2-naphthol-I-sulphonic acid record outstanding work of highest originality.
