TitleHarish-Chandra: certificate of election to the Royal Society
CitationDistinguished for his contributions to the representation theory and Fourier analysis of Lie groups. During the past 20 years Harish-Chandra has made extensive and profound contributions to this important branch of mathematics. His work involves in a significant way both algebra and analysis. Particularly striking was his complete determination of the character of the discrete series for all real semi-simple groups.
