This Gentleman lives at Paris: he is well versed in all parts of polite Litterature, is particularly famous for his skill in the Oriental Languages especially in the Chinese, a Gramer & compleat Dictionary of which Language he hath compiled & almost fitted for the press, an account of his other elaborate Works in the Oriental Languages, may be Seen in the Catalogue of them, which printed in French Anno 1731 he presented to this Society, as he hath likewise done another Learned & Curious Work of his in French Entituled 'Critical Reflections upon the Histories of the Ancient People, the Chaldeans, the Hebrews, the Phenicians, the Egyptians, the Greeks &c quite to the time of Cyrus' in 2 Vols 4to. He is now desirous of the honour of becoming a member of the Royal Society, and being recommended as a person endued with all Necessary Qualifications, in a Certificate Signed at Paris March 29 1738 by the Abbe Bignon, Monsr dufay, Mr Cassini, Mr Du Hamel du Monceau, Mr Geoffroy, Dr Antony & Dr Bernhard de Jussieu all Members of this Society, We whose Names are under Written, thinking he will be a very usefull Member & Correspondent, do likewise recommend him as a Candidate
