CitationMajor General Robert Melvill being desirous of having the Honour to be admitted a Member of this Society, We whose names are hereunto subscribed do certify from our own personal knowledge that he is a Gentleman eminently skilled in the mechanical inventions both of the Antients and of the Moderns as well as in several branches of natural knowledge of which he has been a zealous promoter. We therefore conceive that he will prove a very useful Member of the Society
