The author of a paper on Different modes of Illuminating Lighthouses Phil Trans 1837 - on Spontaneous Electric Currents observed in the wires of electric telegraphs Phil Trans - 1849 - on the Curves of Equal horizontal thrust of Arches Trans Civil Engineers - for which he was awarded the Telford Medal. Distinguished for his acquaintance with the science of Theoretical and Practical Mechanics.
