CitationThe Author of two Papers in the Philosophical Transactions; the first (1841) containing the discovery of the accelerating effect of the Chlorides of Bromine and Iodine in the Daguerreotype process, by which it became possible to take portraits in a few seconds; and the second (1847) on different properties of Solar Radiation producing or preventing the deposit of Mercury on the Silver plate. Also of many Papers in the Phil Mag and Communications to the British Association upon the Theory and principles of Photography. The inventor of the Focimeter, an instrument for obtaining the true chemical focus in the Camera & avoiding distortion, & of other instruments useful for the scientific study of Light and practice of Photography.
