Distinguished for his acquaintance with the science of Mechanics and Civil Engineering. Eminent as having contributed to improvements in Steam Navigation, having engaged in the construction of the first Iron Steam Vessel ('The Aaron Manby'), and the first Marine Engines with vibrating Cylinders, & having materially assisted in the introduction of Gas Lighting, Railway, & the construction of machinery in France, &c.
