CitationDistinguished as a practical geologist, palaeontologist, and petrologist. His researches in the geology of the lower Cambrian & pre-Cambrian rocks, his discovery of the Menevian & Harlech faunas, and his descriptions of the faunas of the Tremadoc & Arevig strata, have been acknowledged to be of great importance.
His investigations of the position & nature of the plant remains of the Silurian rocks of Denbighshire have been of great interest. He is the author of 39 memoirs on practical geology & palaeontology from 1863-1882.
