CitationRegius Professor of Botany (since 1877) in the University of Aberdeen. Corresp K-K Zool -Botan Gesell, Vienna, and Soc Nat Sci et Math, Cherbourg. Made, in 1874, important botanical collections in the valley of the Amazon, in North Brazil. Author of a paper on the Palms collected on the occasion (Journ of Bot, 1876); of a 'Revision of Scottish 'Discomycetes'' (Scottish Naturalist, NS, iv, 1889); of a paper on the Gall-making Diptera of Scotland (ibid, 1888), and of numerous others.
