| Citation | Lecturer in Biology in Guy's Hospital. Ex-Tutor Biology, Columbia College, New York (1892-1894) and, later, Balfour Student in the University of Cambridge (1894-1899). Well-known for his important discoveries in Zoology, and distinguished for his acquaintance with that subject. Has successfully and almost exclusively devoted himself to research for more than ten years. His visit to the Pacific, 1895-1897, will always be remarkable for his discovery of the eggs of the Pearly Nautilus. Has edited 'Zoological Results,' based on material from New Britain, New Guinea, Loyalty Islands and elsewhere, a valuable series dealing with the collections made by himself.
