Fellow, Tutor, and Lecturer in Natural Science, etc. Author of many Zoological papers in scientific journals and other works, among them: - 'On the Formation of the Mesoblast, and the Persistence of the Blastospore in the Lamprey' (Proc Roy Soc, 1886); 'On the Development of 'Petramyzon fluviatilis''; 'On 'Phymosoma varians''; 'On 'Arhynchus nemignathi'' (Quart Journ Micros Soc, vols xxvii-xxxix); 'The Structure and Development of 'Argiope'' (Mitth d Zool Stat zu Neapel, vol iv); 'An Attempt to Revise the Family Linguatulidae,' and 'On the Species of Echinorhynchus parasitic on the Cetaceae' (Arch de Parasitologia, 1898, 1899); 'The Echinoids of the Loyalty Islands, New Britain,' etc, and 'On the Entozoa collected by Dr Willey' (Willey's Zoological Results, 1899, 1900); 'On the Gephyrean Worms of Rotuma and Funafuti' (Proc Zool Soc, 1898); 'The Sipunculoidea of Mr Stanley Gardiner's Voyage' (Fauna, etc, of the Maldive and Laccadive Archipelago, vol i); 'The Zoology of the Invertebrata' (London: 1893). Joint author (with Dr Nuttall) of a series of papers 'On the Structure and Biology of Anopheles (now in course of publication in the 'Journal of Hygiene'); and (with Prof MacBride) of 'Zoology, an Elementary Text-Book' (1901). Joint Editor (with Prof Poulton) of the authorised Translation of Weismann's 'Essays on Heredity,' etc (1889); and (with Dr Harmer) of the 'Cambridge Natural History,' from 1895 onward. In 1887 went to the Bermudas on a mission from the Colonial Office to investigate a disease which was destroying the staple crop of the Islands, and suggested remedial measures which proved successful ('Kew Bulletin,' No X, 1887).
