CitationAssistant in the Department of Geology, British Museum, Natural History Branch. Distinguished for his knowledge of Vertebrate Palaeontology. Has contributed numerous papers on Fossil Vertebrata to the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, to the Zoological Society, the Geological Society, the Geological Magazine and elsewhere. The chief of these deal with the Osteology of AEpyornis; the Flightless Birds of the Chatham Islands and New Zealand; and with Phororhacos from Patagonia. Also several papers on Plesiosauria and on Egyptain Fossil Vertebrata. Spent nearly a year collecting in Christmas Island (Indian Ocean), the collections being described in a Monograph on Christmas Island (1900), printed by order of the Trustees of the British Museum, to which he contributed the chapters on Physical Geography and Geology, the Mammalia and the Geographical relations of the Fauna and Flora. Made four expeditions to Egypt, resulting in the discovery of numerous extinct reptiles and mammals, including especially the early ancestral forms of the Proboscidea (previously unknown); of Hyracoidea, Sirenia, and Zeuglodonts; also remains of large snakes and giant land tortoises. Dr Andrews has also prepared a descriptive catalogue of the whole of the Egyptain vertebrate remains in london and cairo (about 300 pp, with 27 quarto plates and 70 text figures), to be published shortly under the auspices of the Trustees of the British Museum and the Egyptain Survey and Public Works Department. Dr Andrews was awarded the 'Lyell Fund' by the Council of the Geological Society in 1896, and elected to the Sherbrooke Scholarship by the Senate of the University of London in 1900.
