CitationEx-Demonstrator of Animal Morphology in Cambridge and Superintendent of the Marine Biology Association, Plymouth. Balfour Student of the University of Cambridge, 1890-1893. Member of the Evolution Committee of the Royal Society, 1896-1904. Distinguished for his researches in mammalian embryology, and especially for those on the phenomena of ovulation, menstruation and heat in mammals. Author of numerous memoirs on scientific subjects, amongst which may be mentioned: - 'On the Germinal Layers and Development of the Mole' (Proc Roy Soc, 1881, and in the Quarterly Journal of Microscopical Science, 1883, 1886, 1887); 'On the Transplantation and Growth of Mammalian Ova within a Uterine Foster-Mother' (Proc Roy Soc 1890 and 1897); 'The Menstruation of 'Semnopithecus entellus'' (Phil Trans, 1894); 'The Menstruation and Ovulation of 'Macacus rhesus,' (ibid, 1897); 'The Artificial Insemination of Mammals' (Proc Roy Soc, 1897); 'The Artificial Insemination of Mares' (Veterinarian, 1898); 'The Menstruation and Ovulation of Monkeys and the Human female' (Trans Obstet Soc, 1898); 'On the Fertility of different Breeds of Sheep, &c' (Proc Roy Soc, 1899); 'Abortion, Barrenness, and Fertility in Sheep' (Trans Roy Agri Soc, 1899); 'The Sexual Season of Mammals and the relation of the pro-oestrum to Menstruation' (Quart Journ Micros Sci, 1900)
