CitationLate Professor of Pathology, Army Medical School, Netley. Lecturer on Pathology and Bacteriology, St Mary's Hospital Medical School, London. Distinguished as a Pathologist. Author of researches on Blood, in part researches undertaken by specially devised methods on the coagulability, content in lime salts, and alkalinity of human blood. Application of the result of these researches in connection with the treatment of Haemorrhage, Thrombosis, and Scurvy. Bacteriological researches on Typhoid and Malta Fever, with discovery of the serum-diagnosis of the latter disease, and by this means of its wide geographical distribution. Researches on the Anti-Typhoid inoculation, on the standardisation of the vaccine, and on the changes produced in human blood by its inoculation, with practical application of the inoculation. Bacteriological and epidermiological researches on plague, undertaken as a member of the Indian Plague Commission.
