Distinguished for his discoveries in the comparative anatomy of extinct stalked Echinoderms generally. Author of 133 scientific memoirs and papers on Geology, General Biology, Cephalopoda, Brachiopoda, Arthropoda, Annelida, Echinoderma, &c, including 'British Fossil Crinoids' (Ann & Mag Nat Hist, 1890-1892); 'The Crinoidea of Gotland' (K Svensk Vet-Akad Handl, 1893); 'Uintacrinus: a Morphological Study' (Proc Zool Soc, 1895); 'List of the Genera and Species of Blastoidea' 'British Museum, 1899); Chapters on Echinoderma in Lankester's 'Treatise on Zoology' (1900); 'Ordovician Cystidea from Burma' (Palaeontologia Indica, 1906); and 'Triassic Echinoderms of Bakony' (Result Erforsch Balatonsees, 'in the press').
