Formerly twice President of the latter Society. Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of South Australia. Corresponding Member Gesell Ethnol Anthropol, Berlin. Distinguished for his researches on the comparative anatomy and embryology of Mammalia, particularly of Monotremata and Marsupialia. Author of the following among other papers: - 'Observations on the Innervation of Axillary Muscular Arches (Achselbogen) in Man' (Journ Anat Physiol, 1888 and 1890); 'The Anatomy of the Muzzle of Ornithorhyncus,' and 'The Rod-like Tactile Organs in the Integument and Mucous Membrane of Ornithorhyncus' (Macleay Memorial Volume, published by Linnean Society of New South Wales, 1893, with Dr C J Martin); 'The Homologies of the Borders and Surfaces of the Scapula in Monotremes' (Proc Linn Soc, NSW, 1893, with Mr W J Mackay); 'The Anatomy and Relations of the 'dumb-bell-shaped bone' in Ornithorhyncus, with a New Theory of its Homology' (ibid, 1894); 'The Myology of 'Notoryctes typhlops', with Comparative Notes; (Trans Roy Soc, Australia, 1894); 'Description (with figures) of a young specimen of Ornithorhyncus' (Proc Linn Soc, NSW, 1894, with Dr C J Martin); 'The Development and Succession of Teeth in Prameles, together with a Contribution to the Discussion of the Homologies of the Teeth in Marsupial Animals' (Quart Journ Micros Sci, 1897, with Mr J P Hill); 'On the Skeleton of the Snout and os carunculae of the Mammary Foetus of Monotremes' (Proc Linn Soc, NSW, 1900 and 1901); 'Primitive Knot and early Gastrulation Cavity co-existing with Independent Primitive Streak in Ornithorhyncus' (Proc Roy Soc, 1903, with Mr J P Hill).
