Has made many researches in systematic and general entomology, his more important paper being: - 'A Monograph of the Coccidae of the British Isles' ; Papers (38) dealing with British and Foreign Coccidae, &c; 'Insects and other Arthropoda of the Congo Free State' ; 'Anatomy of Proboscis of Biting Flies'; 'Food of some British Birds' (complied from 1 000 post mortems and from field notes); 'Breeding Places and Bionomics of the House-fly'; 'Two New Dermanyssid Acarids in the Lungs of Monkeys'; 'Habits and Life-cycle of 'Stomoxys calcitrans'; Papers on Ticks, Pathogenic Lice, and Economic Entomology. Also papers on Archaeology. Distinguished for his thorough knowledge of his subject, especially of Tropical Medical Entomology.
