CitationProfessor of Pathology in the University of London. Lecturer in Pathology at, and Pathologist to, St Bartholomew's Hospital. Formerly Sheppard Medical Fellow, Pembroke College, Oxford. Distinguished as a Pathologist and Bacteriologist. Amongst his contributions to pathological science are: - 'Lymphadenoma in its Relation to Tuberculosis' (Trans Path Soc, 1902); 'The Quantitative Distribution of Bacteria in the Air of London' (ibid, 1903); 'The Resistance of 'Staphylococcus pyogenes aurens to the Salts of Mercury' (ibid, 1903). 'A Study of the Disinfectant Action of Hypochlorous Acid' (with Prof Orton - Centralb f Bakteriologie, 1904); 'A Method of sterilizing Sponges' (Lancet, 1905, ii); 'Report to the Hampstead Borough Council on the Bacteriology of Sewer Air' (with D W H Hartley), 1905; Horace Dobell Lecture (Roy Coll Phys), 'On the Evolution of the Streptococci' (1906); 'A Study of the Streptococci Pathogenic for Man' (with Dr T H Horder - Lancet, 1906); Three reports to the Local Government Board, 'On the Bacteriology of Sewer and Drain Air' (Reports, 1908, 1909, 1911); Croonian Lectures (Roy Coll Phys), 'On the Behaviour of Leucocytes in Infection and Immunity' (Lancet, 1910); 'Report on Arterial Degeneration and its Premature Occurrence' (Local Government Board Reports, 1912); 'The Cytology and Bacteriology of Condensed Milks' (Journ of Path and Bact, 1913).
