CitationDirector of the Geological Survey of India since 1910. Has devoted special attention to Indian stratigraphical geology, and made large additions to our knowledge, particularly in the region of the Himalaya and neighbouring countries of Asia , including Afghanistan, the Pamirs, Chinese Turkestan and Tibet. Author of many papers, principally published by the Geological Survey of India, of which the principal are: - 'The Geology of the Tirah and Bazur Valleys' (Memoirs, 1900); 'The Gold Fields of the Wainad' (ibid, 1901); 'The Geology of Spiti, &c' (ibid, 1904); 'The Geology of Tsang in Central Tibet' (ibid, 1907); 'The Stratigraphical Position of the Gangamopteris Beds of Kashmir' (Records, 1907); 'Fusulinidae from Afghanistan' (Records, 1909); 'The Geology of Afghanistan' (Memoirs, 1912); and jointly, with Col Sir Sidney Burrand, KCSI, FRS, prepared the 'Sketch of the Geography and Geology of the Himalaya Mountains and Tibet' (1908).
