CitationPhysician in Charge of Cardiographic Department, University College Hospital. Distinguished for his researches in physiology and pathology, especially on the rhythm of the mammalian heart. Author of about 60 monographs and papers, of which the following are especially noteworthy: - 'The Mechanism of the Heart Beat (Heart, 1911); 'On Auricular Fibrillation, &c' (contains first clear proof of Auricular Fibrillation in Man) (ibid); a series of papers on the Origin and Course of the Excitation Wave in the Dog's Heart (ibid) - two papers were published in Heart, 1910, one paper has appeared in the Philosophical Transactions, another, 'The Excitation Process in the Dog's Heart,' Part II, has just been communicated to the Royal Society; also 'the Relation of Dyspnoea to Acidosis' (Heart ); 'Tonic Relations of Heart Sounds, &c' (ibid); 'On Paroxysmal Tachycardia' (ibid); 'The Susceptible Region in A V Conduction' (ibid).
