Lyell Medallist, Geological Society, 1914; a member of the Gelogical Survey of India, 1883-1917. Well known for his geological investigations. Author of numerous papers published in the Memoirs and Records of the Geological Survey of India, and other serials, among the more important of which are: - 'Physical Geology of the Sub-Himalaya of Garhwal and Kumaon' (Memoirs, xxiv, 1890); 'Notes on the Geology of the Salt Range of the Punjab' (Records, xxiii, 1891); 'The Geology of Hazara and the Black Mountin' (Memoirs, xxvi, 1896); 'The Kangra Earthquake of 4th April, 1905' (ibid, xxxviii, 1910); 'A Revision of the Silurian Trais Sequence of Kashmir' (Records, xl, 1910).
