TitleRaper, Henry Stanley: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionDate stamp on reverse
CitationDistinguished for investigations in chemical physiology and pathology. Has made highly significant experimental contributions to the problem of fatty acid synthesis and oxidation in the animal body, and has developed a theory of proved value concerning the mode of oxidation 'in vivo' of fatty acids with branched chains. More recently he has conducted brilliant investigations on the mechanism of the tyrosine-tyrosinase reaction, and has discovered novel chemical changes of great biological significance, including the production of indole derivatives from tyrosine. Has successfully applied chemical methods in the investigation of a variety of pathological conditions, and (1915-1918) rendered well-known service in perfecting methods of defence in connection with gas warfare. Joint author of a monograph on 'The Fats.'
