TitleHouston, Sir Alexander Cruikshank: certificate of election to the Royal Society
CitationDistinguished for his accurate quantitative and qualitative researches during the past thirty years on the bacteriology of water supplies and for the improvements which he has introduced into the current methods of purifying water and of detecting pollution. Largely as the result of Houston's work the standard of purity of public water supplies has been raised not only in this country but abroad, and at the present time he is recognised as the foremost authority on the subject.
