| Citation | Distinguished for his researches in the taxonomy and anatomy of Insects, especially Lepidoptera, Coleoptera and Siphonoptera. Has written standard monographs on large groups, such as Papilio, Charaxes and Sphingidas (with Lord Rothschild); is the only authority on the Anthribidae, and leading authority on fleas, of which he has nearly completed a comprehensive monograph. Has published important papers on the morphology of Thysanoptera, Polyxenidae and Arixenidae, and on the comparative anatomy of the antennae and mesosternite in Rhopalocera, and has discovered new sound and scent organs in Lepidoptera; has also published papers dealing with evolutionary problems in relation to insects. |
