| Citation | Dr Roughton began by developing, with Hartridge, general methods for measuring the velocity of rapid chemical reactions, and applying them to the reaction between oxygen and haemoglobin. Later he, independently, developed them further, and applied them to other chemical reactions of physiological importance. This led him to the calculation of the speed of such processes in vivo including mathematical investigation of processes conditioned jointly by diffusion and chemical reaction velocity. He lately (with junior workers) isolated a new enzyme, carbonic anhydrase from blood. Publications principally in Proceedings A and B, 1923, onwards. |
