CitationAdair's earlier work dealt principally with the osmotic pressure of proteins leading to a correct detemination of the M W of Haemoglobin at 68000, not 17000, a result so revolutionary as to be received with some scepticism till confirmed by Svedberg. Then followed a new conception of the reversible reaction between haemoglobin and oxygen. Later his work extended, especially to the application to proteins of Gibbs' fundamental equations and their exact relation to water and certain ions.
