TitleAndrewes, Christopher Howard: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his discoveries in connection with virus diseases, he was one of the workers who first transmitted human influenza virus to ferrets and mice; also for his studies on the mode of action of anti-viral sera and antiphage sera, with Elford he showed that anti-sera inactivated phage according to a percentage law. Though some of this work was joint work, he has investigated independently the properties of immune sera active against fowl tumour viruses and obtained very interesting results.
