TitleMaskell, Ernest John: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionDate stamp on reverse
CitationDistinguished for his experimental researches in plant physiology, carried out at Cambridge, Rothamsted and Trinidad. His early work elucidated most thoroughly the relation of assimilation in leaves to stomatal apertures (PRS B, 102, pp 467-533) by accomplishing simultaneous measurements of porometer-rate and CO2-intake. In Trinidad he planned, in conjunction with Mason, an intensive study of the metabolic physiology of the cotton plant, designed to provide data about the translocation of metabolites of various types. The first contributions, dealing with carbohydrates, appeared in 1928 (Annals of Botany, XLII); ten papers have now been published in this series.
