CitationDistinguished for his original work in Geology, especially Petrology, including investigations of (a) Injection-complexes in Deeside, Sutherland and Shetland, in which the injection-process is analysed; (b) Contamination in igneous rocks in Aberdeenshire and Galloway; the 'reciprocal reaction' interpretation of contamination, and indeed the first studies of the process so named; (c) Metamorphic rocks of Shetland, in which problems of metamorphic history, convergence and differentiation were stated and attacked; the relation between tectonic and metamorphic history was established; (d) Tectonics and Stratigraphy of the Dalvadian of North-east Scotland; suggestion of the Banff Nappe, and the stratigraphical order therein; (e) The Moine Series and their age-problems.
