TitleLinstead, Sir Reginald Patrick: certificate of election to the Royal Society
CitationDistinguished for his researches on the unsaturated acids, in which he has revised and added to the classical work of Fittig, and also for his investigations on alicyclic structures, in which he has shown the effect of strain, due to ring closure, is clearly indicated by the chemical and physical properties of these substances. He also discovered and investigated a new series of pigment colours called the Phthalocyanines - substances related to Haemin and Chlorophyll. He has published numerous papers, mostly in the 'Journal of the Chemical Society', and has been associated in his work with many advanced students, whom he has trained and inspired.
