DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDr Quastel has made important contributions to the chemical side of Bacteriology. He was a pioneer in the chemical study of chemical side of Bacteriology. He was a pioneer in the chemical study of chemical changes induced in the external medium by organisms when not proliferating, a technique which enabled him, and later others, to study induced reactions on high quantitative lines. Such studies have led to very signifcant results. His many studies of enzyme catalysed reactions led him to advance views concerning the nature of enzyme action which have received much attention. Quastel's later work has been mainly concerned with the metabolism of surviving nerve tissues and the influence of narcotics and other agencies upon them. This has led to conclusions of much importance. He has made significant contributions to our knowledge of fat metabolism, and to other general aspects of biochemistry.
