TitleMelville, Sir Harry Work: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionDate stamp on reverse
CitationFellow of Trinity College and Assistant Director of Research, Laboratory of Colloid Science, Cambridge. Has contributed to our knowledge of gaseous reactions. Was the first to show that the relative effects of different gases in determining lower explosion limits could be correlated with the diffusion coefficients of chain carriers. Devised various methods for initiating chains and measuring the exchange and decomposition reactions of the trivalent hydrates. Recent work has been devoted to the elucidation of polymerisation reactions. In this work he has made the interesting discovery of molecules which grow into macro-molecules in the dark after photo-activation.
