TitleHenderson, George Hugh: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionDate stamp on reverse. Citation typed
CitationProfessor of Physics in Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia. Distinguished for his work in various branches of radioactivity. Particular mention should be made of his investigations, both experimental and theoretical, on the ionisation and loss of energy of alpha-particles ; of his discovery of the change of charge, the so-called capture and loss effect of alpha-particles ; and of his extensive investigations of pleochroic haloes. His work on this last subject is noteworthy for its completeness in explaining all the facts about haloes, and in bringing out information of value both in radioactivity and in geology.
