CitationCampbell Brown Professor of Industrial Chemistry in the University of Liverpool. Distinguished chiefly for his researches on the chemistry of fats. These have led to new methods of investigating the structure of glycerides and consequently to an increase in knowldege of natural fats and of the relationship between their fatty acid components and their origin. Other important researches have dealt with catalytic action, especially hydrogenation in liquid systems and selective hydrogenation. He is the author of 'Catalytic processes in applied chemistry' (Thorpe's Dictionary Applied Chemistry, 1938); 'Industrial fats and waxes', 2nd edition 1941; 'Chemie der Fette' (Hefter-Schonfeld); and in particular, 'The chemical constitution of natural fats', 1940. Has published jointly or independently numerous papers on these and other subjects.
