TitleRoberts, John Keith: certificate of election to the Royal Society
CitationAssistant Director of Research, Colloid Science Laboratory, Cambridge. The candidate was the first to obtain accurate values for the temperature variation of accommodation coefficients of helium and neon on tungsten. He has applied this method to study the presence and structure of gas films on solids, thus throwing light on the problem of activated adsorption on single fine wires and explored both theoretically and experimentally the differences between mobile and immoble layers. Has theoretically considered and explored experimentally the gaps left in a surface film formed by the adsorption of a dissociating gas. Has published 'A text book on heat and thermodynamics', 1st edition, 1928, 2nd edition, 1933.
