DescriptionCitation typed
CitationKeeper of Museums, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, from 1936, having entered Kew as Student Garner 1904, becoming Assistant 1907, Botanist 1919. Has travelled widely on botanical expeditions, particularly in Africa. Has published, besides very many papers on Colonial and other floras the following important works. (1) The Flora of West Tropical Africa Vol.I, II pp.1174; (2) The Families of Flowering Plants Vols I, II pp541 with numerous illustrations from his own pen. (An original and valuable contribution to our conception of Angiosperm inter-relationships, which has attracted much attention.) (3) A Botanist in South Africa, pp686, with hundreds of illustrations and maps (the labour of some twenty years). Of high quality, showing competence in three distinct fields of botanical research as well as quite remarkable industry, Hutchinson's record need fear no comparison with that of any living botanical taxonomist.
