CitationDistinguished as a biochemist and immunologist. In early work with R Robison he made important contributions to the chemistry of hexosephosphoric esters. Turning to immunology he studied antibody production in the horse, and went on to a detailed antigenic analysis of the Shiga dysentery bacillus which considerably advanced knowledge of bacterial antigens. For the past five years he has been engaged in research on the chemical basis of blood group specificity; this work is of high scientific quality and of practical importance and has attracted much attention in this country and abroad.
