DescriptionCitation typed
CitationD.Sc. (London), Ph.D. (Cambridge).
Distinguished for work on magnetism, particularly researches on the magnetic and related properties of ferromagnetics. Associated with A P Chattock in the first accurate determination of the gyromagnetic ratio for ferromagnetics. Has made extensive investigations on the magnetic, electrical and thermal properties of compounds of manganese and chromium, and of dilure amalgams of many metals. Responsible for valuable improvements in the technique of magnetic measurements, including a new method for measuring accurately the very small temperature changes in successive stages of the ferromagnetic hysteresis cycle.
Author of Modern Magnetism (Cambridge University Press, 1939).
A list of papers (1920 onwards) is attached.
