Distinguished for his researches in plant pathology and systematic mycology, especially the Rust Fungi and the Gasteromycetes. As head of the organization for the investigation for plant diseases he has been most successful and an inspring stimulus to his staff. Besides numerous papers he has written the following books: Fungous Diseases of Fruit Trees in N. Zealand, The Rust Fungi of N. Zealand, Plant Protection by the Aid if Therapeutants, The Gasteromycetes of Australia and N. Zealand, all of which are marked by critical insight.
